One day, out of curiosity, I went to see a camel wrestling event in the Aegean region—I wish I hadn’t! The animals’ terrible condition broke my heart. I looked into the eyes of a camel and made a promise to do something for them. I made that documentary (Entrusted to God! https://vimeo.com/326507789) with this intention. I don’t know if I was able to change anything, but at least I kept my word.
Nejla Osseiran
Nejla Osseiran, a Turkish-Lebanese photographer, worked as an instructor at BoÄŸaziçi University for many years. Her work has been exhibited and published in various media. Her photos are social documentaries mainly concerned with issues such as identity, poverty, working children, displacement, forced evictions and the environment. She has been making documentary films related to these issues since 2010.
